IPA Perú seeks a qualified applicant for the position of intern (student volunteer) in Ayacucho City, Peru. The Education Intercultural Bilingual project seeks to contribute to the closing of two knowledge gaps. Firstly, in spite of developing literature on what works in early mathematics instruction, there is little rigorous evidence regarding what pedagogical models are effective in better developing mathematical abilities at the preschool level in bilingual indigenous communities. Secondly, there exists ample literature (mainly anthological) on the importance of intercultural education. However, there is no evidence regarding the effectiveness of this model with intercultural bilingual instruction compared to a simple bilingual model. The project will develop and pilot a bilingual curriculum and an intercultural bilingual curriculum in mathematics using interactive audios at the preschool level. The objectives specified are: (i) based on the model of Jadenka: funny mathematics for initial education in Panama, developing a bilingual mathematics curriculum for the preschool level and audio lessons in Spanish and the student’s own language; (ii) develop an intercultural version of the same curriculum; (iii) implement a pilot experiment in two groups of treatment schools and one control group to test effectiveness of the two curriculums, contrasting them with the traditional teaching model of the Peruvian education system.
