Just as UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries.
This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC Lima) in [Lima], and is offered for an initial period of two months, with an opportunity for extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID. The Interns must cover full time working hours (35 hours), under the supervision and support of a staff member from the office to which they are assigned. Part-time schedules could be arranged depending on UNIC Lima’s requirements.**Responsibilities**:
Under the instruction and guidance of UNIC Lima’s National Information Officer, the daily activities and tasks may include, but are not limited to:
^ Provide general office support; respond to complex information requests and inquiries of UNIC Lima; draft media and other communication documents;
^ Assist UNIC Lima in the production and delivery of information communications products and services;
^ Assist on media outreach, e.g. distribution of press releases and other information materials to mass media and civil society organizations;
^ Assist in the researching and compiling of basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services about the UN;
^ Assist with UNIC Lima audiovisual material; by producing digital imaging; write captions for UN photos, when required;
^ Assist in the production and editing of UNIC Lima video/film projects, radio program or website projects; produce scripts, cue cards, etc., select and catalogue sound and visual materials for inclusion in UN productions;
^ Assist in development and final production of social media products, as well as enrich potential online initiatives to audiences to raise awareness of the UN work;
^ Performs other duties as assigned.Competencies

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communications related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Applicants must also:
^ Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
^ Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.Work ExperienceLanguages
